“The best years of your life?” Yeah, right! A must-see for anyone who looks back on high school with both grins and grimaces, Speech & Debate is a fiercely funny look at the awkward glory of adolescence. Playwright Stephen Karam tells it like it is, creating three supremely believable teens who grapple with amazingly adult issues. Solomon is an uptight but brilliant reporter for the school paper; Howie is gay, new in town, and just wants to graduate; and Diwata has her eye on Broadway stardom—but first she needs to get cast in the school musical. When the three discover a sex scandal in their own school, they build a tentative alliance in the form of their school’s first Speech & Debate team, and begin to make their voices heard.
