with generous support from the Humphreys Foundation
Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, this masterful one-man show includes 40 different characters and explores the astonishing true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite and celebrated antiques dealer who lived openly as a cross-dresser under the Nazi and Communist regimes. She was both hailed as a cultural hero and accused of colluding with the Soviet secret police. Author Doug Wright becomes a character in his own play as he struggles to discern the truth about Charlotte's remarkable survival.
I Am My Own Wife will be performed in conjunction with Zero Hour in true repertory style. The plays will share essential technical elements and will be performed in the same theater on alternating days.
